Emmaus graduate Joe Henrich in line for Bethlehem Catholic football job?

If you believe what you read on Facebook, Bethlehem Catholic has reached a decision on its new football coach.

But no one is talking.

Joe Henrich, a 1991 Emmaus High School graduate, will be the person to replace Mike Palos as the head football coach at Bethlehem Catholic High School, according to at least one Emmaus supporter.

A posting on the Emmaus High School football Facebook page wishes Henrich luck as the new head coach at Bethlehem Catholic.

An East Penn Conference all-league performer on the offensive line with the Green Hornets, Henrich went on to play at the University of Connecticut before a neck injury cut his collegiate career short.

Henrich began his coaching career as a student assistant on the Huskies staff and then went on to stops at University of the Redlands, Western Connecticut State, Albright and Muhlenberg prior to joining Joe Bottiglieri's staff.

Henrich, who could not immediately be reached for comment, is a guidance counselor at Emmaus High School.

Palos was relieved of his duties after a 9-13 record in two seasons coaching his alma mater -- including a 2-8 mark in 2010. As of the end of December, Golden Hawks' Athletic Director Mike Grasso was still accepting applications for the football vacancy.

When contacted, Grasso indicated that Bethlehem Catholic is focused on the winter sports season and officials are not prepared to make an announcement about a new football coach at this time.

A decision, along with a date and time to meet the new coach, is expected to come next week, according to Grasso.
