Live Green At Heart: Green Cleaning Posted: 01 Mar 2011 04:43 PM PST A UT graduate wasn't ready to let the dismal job market keep him from succeeding. Andrew McAffry walked away from UT two years ago with a diploma in hand and immediately launched into the job hunt. "Just so happened to be the worst time to look for a job. I always had the idea of running a business and always thought a cleaning business would be good," said McAffry. He was intent on setting himself apart. The idea of a green cleaning service took root and grew into his one-man company, Natural Cleaning Solutions. The products they use to dust and polish are all natural making them easier on the environment and people. "The line I use most the time are coconut oil or vinegar base. they have no bleach in them," explained McAffry. These characteristics are what sold Knoxville Dentist Jason Kirkpatrick on the green cleaning service. He has to use harsh chemicals in the patients room. "I think balance is great, especially when you have a choice and in these areas we do surgery , we don't have a choice but in our windows, doors and carpets we do have a choice and something that is easier on us , easier on the environment, it's an easy choice to make," said Kirkpatrick. McAffry's vacuums are equipped with Hepa filters that suck up more dust than regular vacuums. McAffry said they help people with allergies and asthma breathe easier. "After the first or second time I clean, it usually takes two times they really start to see the difference and really appreciate it after that," explained McAffry. McAffy would eventually like to take his green dream business a step further by providing recycling bins to customers. In the short term, he is looking to hire and in the long term he hopes to franchise his business.
