Adams leaving for new job in Dubuque

Scott Schleis will step in as interim head women's basketball coach at Beloit College for the 2010-11 season, replacing Don Adams, who has resigned to accept a head coaching position at Clarke University in Dubuque, Iowa.

Schleis was Adams' top assistant for the past four years and is a 20-year veteran of the coaching ranks. He was the head girls varsity coach at Beloit Turner High School for two seasons prior to joining the Buccaneers.

Schleis has held various coaching positions since 2001 at Turner, where he is a physical education teacher.

"I'm very excited about this opportunity," Schleis said. "This is something I've worked hard to achieve for a long time. I am very proud of the program we've built here at Beloit and I feel we have the talent to have a very successful season."

In addition to his basketball coaching experience, he has also coached baseball and soccer at the high school level and was the head varsity soccer coach at Whitewater High School for one season.

Schleis is a graduate of UW-Whitewater, where he earned both Bachelors and Masters degrees.

Adams coached the Bucs for five season, leading them to a 55-61 overall record. They made back-to-back Midwest Conference Tournament appearances in 2008 and 2009, the first MWC Tourney bids for the squad since 1998.

"Saying good-bye to Don is tough; he's done a great job building the program and we wish him well in his new endeavor," said Director of Athletics Peggy Carl.

Carl expects there to be a smooth transition to Schleis.

"Scott is a welcome addition to our head coaching staff," Carl said. "We know he has the experience to lead the team and I have every confidence that his Beloit experience will be a great asset to them and to us all as this year unfolds. He is the ideal candidate to lead us through this transitional time and I have high expectations for his and the team's success."

A national search will take place for the position in the Spring of 2011.
